Managed to kill the differential center on the first lap of the race. We then proceeded to rebuild the thing for the race the following day, only to break it again. The solid axle definitely appears to be the weak point in the car. It's either a sheared axle, a pinion gear or the spider gears that get chewed up. Strangely, the 1-tonner axles appear to be no better than the stock axles; and even more strangely they torque-up and shear through the largest diameter of the shaft. I have a feeling that a bit of effort put into removing the casting marks and polishing these shafts up would go a long way towards preventing these types of failures...
Anyway, the end result of the race was a DNF for all races; certainly not a good result for an event all the way out in Hyden.
